The bad news is that dental anxiety doesn’t go away with time. It gets strengthened and makes it pretty difficult for a patient to actually sit on the dentist’s chair. This feeling usually starts in the childhood and becomes stronger and scarier in the later years.
What is dental anxiety?

Children can have this anxiety due to fear of obstructive breathing, fear of pain, delay between dental visits, and fear of unknown.
How to help your kids with dental anxiety?
You need to make sure that your child remains calm during dental treatment. For this reason, you need to find a way to prevent occurrence of dental fear in your child. There are a few ways through which you can reduce dental fear in your kids.
- The first and foremost thing you should be concerned about is choosing the right dentist. A pediatric dentist is a qualified person who knows what relaxes children during a dental treatment. Having that said, you need to make sure that you are not taking your kid to any regular dentist or an unqualified pediatric dentist.
- You need to make up the minds of your kids before taking them to the dentist. For this purpose, you can talk to them a few days before dental visit. Talk to them in a way that you manage to portray dental visit as something positive and exciting.
- Different relaxation techniques work for different people. Thus, you will need to find out what relaxes your child during the stressful time. You can teach your kid to remain calm during this period.
- Another way is to tell them about the benefits you have gained due to regular dental visits. This way, they are going to consider you as a role model.
